Asian Poker Tour

If you’re eagerly awaiting some action on the Asian poker scene, Macau is the place to be. The Asian Poker Tour will be held at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau from August 12 to 23, 2009. Asia’s biggest and original poker tour, the APT is owned and operated by AsianLogic. The Tour has already held three major events; two in the Philippines and one in Macau.

Each Asian Poker Tour event attracts live tournament players as well as Internet qualifiers who join via online satellites. If you’re planning to be at the event and need more info, log on to the official web site at http://www.asianpt.com. AsianLogic, the owners of the event is a leading online and land-based gaming company focusing on the Asia-Pacific markets. It operates eight online casino brands and four online poker rooms as well as land-based sportsbook operations through its MegaSportsWorld brand.

APT, Macau

Poker players in Asia and all over the world are waiting in anticipation for the APT, which will be held at Macau this year. The Tour is aimed at bringing world-class poker experience in the Asia-Pacific as its premier poker tournament.

The Macau government has already issued an official bulletin which allows casinos to spread Texas Hold’em games. The Grand Lisboa casino, the flagship property of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau(SJM) has begun to spread the games. SJM operates 17 casinos in Macau.

Tournament Texas Hold’em was first played in Macau during the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour in November 2007. The tourno was held at the Galaxy Grand Waldo Casino with special permission from the government. The event was a smashing success. Texas Hold’em poker thrived in the largest casino market in the world, even though most of Macau’s visitors are ignorant of the game.

Prior to this event, Galaxy had the only “poker room” in Macau, with four Poker Pro machines spreading no-limit hold’em games and two Poker Pro heads-up tournament tables at its flagship property, Star World. During the APPT, the Grand Waldo was also testing a Lightning Poker table, a company operated by professional poker player Brian Haveson.

The casino could have the machines because Macau considers automated poker machines to be in the same category as slots.
